Following the desolate crossing of the High Plains intermission between Taos and Tres Piedras, the terrain and altitude changed immediately with a long and winding climb into higher elevations and snow....
This was incredible country with lots of "Elk Crossing" signs and plenty of trails of tracks seen on both sides of the road.
A beautiful view of the San Juans ahead....
I passed several trucks pulling trailers of snowmobiles and here you can see the crisscrossing tracks as far as the eye can see.....
A Winter Playground!
At the top of the pass and looking into the valley on the west side.
Beginning the descent....
Here was my route for the day.....
North from Santa Fe to Espanola and then Northeast to Taos and clockwise around the Enchanted Circle back to Taos and then a Northwesterly path across 285 at Tres Piedras over the San Juans to Tierra Amarilla and then Southeast back to Espanola and then Santa Fe.....
Quite a drive and Quite a lot of beautiful and varied terrain....
Just what I like about Northern New Mexico.
A 50 mile view from the pass looking southwest...
Once I started the western descent from the pass over the San Juans, I started seeing a few ranches....
I guess they have wireless service on this side of the mountains!
The Blue Dot Be Me!
It was getting late at this point but that can be the most beautiful time of the day in the Southwest as you will see in the next post.
GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!
