A Pretty Appropriate Scene for Yellowstone...
A Lone Bull Bison standing alone in the expanse and grandeur of Yellowstone.
This place has a way of making you feel very small and insignificant.....
And yet....
Alive.
Blacktail Creek Trail....
One of my great memories of Yellowstone...
Where my family and I hiked into the Yellowstone River and camped out for a few days....
Living off what we carried in....
And the bounty of the Yellowstone River!
I remember Amy catching a few small trout from a small eddy in the Yellowstone River and I left her to return to camp. I told her to catch a Big One and we would eat it for lunch.
When I returned a half hour later, she had a huge 18" cutthroat trout laying on the bank.
What a Trooper.... Packing her own 25# pack into the Yellowstone Backcountry and then catching a mess of fish to eat over an open fire.
Leaving the safety of the road and walking into the backcountry of Yellowstone is like stepping back into the times of Jim Bridger.....
Totally self sustaining....
Everybody should do this sort of thing at least once a year just to reset their appreciation for how good we have it.
Literally hundreds of miles of trails in Yellowstone.
And yes, everywhere you go, you have to be careful of the bears.... Black and Grizzly.
Part of this is keeping a clean camp including pulling all of your food in a sack at least 12 - 15' off the ground.
Most of the Park campsites are equipped with these "Bear Poles" for camper convenience and safety.
I was drawn to almost taking off and making the hike to the Yellowstone River.
But I stuck to the plan and got back in the Xterra....
Parked at the Roosevelt Lodge Parking lot....
Fueled up for the ride ahead....
Shared some nuts and fruit with the local Parking Lot Head Honcho Raven
Got everything checked and ready for the ride...
And took off down the road to Lamar Valley toward the Northeast Entrance.
Been a dream of mine for a long time....
To ride my bike down this road....
Living it....
