People! Several people I've talked to have expressed how hard Santa Fe has been hit by the recession... SF is a Mecca for discretionary spending and what goes first when things get bad? You got it - ski trips, art purchases, 2nd homes, etc. We were walking past the main bank in Santa Fe & read a public notice stating that the SF bank had just assumed the deposits of the Charter Bank of Albuquerque to the tune of $1.2 billion...the letter implied that there had been a time period when depositors did not have access to their money! Failed banks....another sign of the times.... when I come back I'll spend some time w/ the bank's mortgage dptmt and see what real estate they have on their books.... might be a good time to look!
