What to do in this kind of heat....

Ahhhh.... The Wetlands.

Water of Heat, Humidity and Mosquitoes...

Luckily the biting little so and so's are absent....

Else I wouldn't be here...

Can take the H&H but not the HH&M.

Poor thing. I can't bear to see it.

Wonder what they talk about in there??

Decisions.... Decisions.

I don't know.

Just strip and bare it I guess..

  1. I didn't know biking would get you all ripped like that ...what am I doing wrong? Well, I know what our rainforest host would say,"you need to boil down some beef bones and mix the tallow with some home made sauerkraut.". Ah, he probably wouldn't really say that. Good to see you're still active as ever. I'm in pismo beach now. I'm slowing down because I have no real reason to be home. I was hosted by a great family last night right on the beach. Traveling with another biker, a lady offered her abandoned house and her boyfriend cooked us a chicken soup. Thrilled as ever to see you're still kicking butt and taking names .....jay

  2. Jay,

    Great to hear from you.

Don't know what we're doing differently.

    Here's what I did:

    1. I was using a Mountain Bike and was carrying a lot of gear. This may have added more stress on my body.
    2. I did quite a few strenuous "side trips" such as the ride up Hurricane Ridge Road in Olympic National Park - 17 miles one way 5200 ft elevation change. Also did the side trip to the Hoh Rain Forest from the Hostel and hiked like 8 miles that day. HIked 15 miles one day at Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park.
    2. I ended up doing a total of 2350 miles on the bike and about 80 miles hiking....
    3. Since I have been back I have been doing a 1 hour group exercise weight class called "Body Pump", part of the Les Mills program. It is 1 hour of non-stop light weight high rep, anaerobic and aerobic work and totals a minimum of 100 reps per bodypart with over 1000 reps for the workout. I do it Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
    4. I've been eating pretty clean - the Paleo or Caveman Diet - meat, vegetables, fruit, nuts... while occasionally breaking discipline with beer, margaritas and Mexican Food but always taking a 1 hour walk at night after the meal.
    5. I'm not working so I'm not stressing out and eating because of stress. This will change at some point but at least I'll be facing it from a starting point of better physical, mental and emotional health.

The key for me is good food and exercise and lots of both.... oh yeah... and lots of coffee.

I've given up the pipe and tobacco.... it was affecting my sleep.

    Great to hear from you.

Please stay in touch and send me some pics - you got my phone # and e-mail.
