Taking Control of your..... Electricity Costs!!

Another trick to controlling your budget and saving money so you can save money.

People are conditioned to just go with the status quo.... this includes electrical providers.

What many people don't know is that they MAY live in a competitive market for electricity.

What this means is that a number of service providers compete to offer consumers the lowest price.

One way to check to see if you are in a competitive marketplace is to go to a site like.....

www.competitiveenergy.org

Select "Consumer Tools" and then "State by State information" -

http://competitiveenergy.org/consumer-tools/state-by-state-links/

should get you to a map of the US where you can pick a state or just scroll down to your state and get the information.

For Texas, you can go to www.powertochoose.org and input your zip code and it'll tell you if you are in a city / zip that offers competitive electricity pricing.

I did this a couple of months ago and ended up on a 3 month plan with Pennywise Power that cut my cost of electricity from 14.1 cents / kilowatt hour to 6.3 cents / kilowatt hour.  My last bill on a 2800 ft2 house built in 1975 was $56 compared to my prior lowest cost of $148.

That's huge especially when we get to the summer months.

Once your period of low prices nears its end, just go back to your version of www.powertochoose.org and find the best plan for you and start over..... sounds like a lot of trouble but it isn't.

The powertochoose website was easy to use and I researched several low cost providers and selected one and filled out the forms on my iPhone all in less than an hour.

For potential savings of over $2000 per year..... that's a good hour's work.

See.... this blog isn't just about music, food, women and my cynical view of life....

Ok.... come to think of it.... that is what it's mostly about!
