Cape Disappointment Bell's View Trail #2

The weather here is incredible with extremes in fog and wind. 

The gun emplacement was also cool. 

Jim, the lighthouse guide, related a story of a WWII Japanese submarine going up the Columbia River and firing on Ft Stevens (across the river in Oregon).

It was kept secret by the US Govt for many years but is one of very few times when an enemy has fired on US soil. 

And for the record, we didn't get a shot at the Japanese sub.
