Y'all wanna take a little Tour of Monterey and Carmel today?

Well - I been reserving judgment on these Hostelling International Hostels because of my Rule of 3....

I'll tell you about that on a Different Day...

But now that I've stayed in the 3rd one, I have to say I'm really impressed.

They're clean, well-organized, well-run and the other guests all seem to understand and follow the rules.

It's weird....

In this day and age, you can still find strangers from all walks of life who can come together in a temporary communal environment and get along.

Perhaps the UN should check out the whole hosteling concept.

Anyway, there's HI hostels south of me in Cambria, San Luis Obispo, LA - Santa Monica, LA - San Pedro and San Diego.

I plan on trying to stay in each of them where appropriate to my plan and schedule.

As far as price comparisons go, here's what I know so far:

State Park Hiker Biker - $5 to $6 per day

State Park Individual Site w/ Electric and Water - $27 to $35 per day

Hostel Bed with all the amenities I've shown in the pics - Shower, Kitchen, Common Area, Computer and Internet, etc. - $30 per night

Budget Motel - $70 to $100 per night.

I like the Hostel option because it's middle of the road on price, high on features and service and affords me the opportunity of talking with different folks from around the world.

So what do you want to do today?

I think I'll check and see if the Hostel will rent me a bed for another night.

I kinda wanna do a tour around the Monterey / Carmel area today with the Mule unloaded and see what I can see.

How's that sound?

Oh....

And before you think I'm TOTALLY WORTHLESS (which I am), one of the reasons for me getting such a late start yesterday was because I spent part of the morning on a Job Interview and then fielded a couple of other job related calls.

Seems there's people out there who want me to go back to work....

Haven't they read my blog and seen what a Worthless Individual I am?

Oh well - we'll see how it goes...

I think I got the California Cycling Bum thing down pretty good....

Should I put that on
My resume'?

  1. This hostel really had a pretty good setup. I can see why you have chosen this route. Pretty economical on your part. Meets all your needs. Good luck on the job perspectives.

  2. I was at that same hostel on Wednesday! I loved driving the Pacific Coast Highway and stayed at a bunch of HI hostels.
