Did 23 mile loop around San Fran today and climbed some pretty steep hills with no problem.
Results of the lower gear retrofit are as follows:
- lost 3 gears at the top end and gained 3 gears at the bottom end
- net result is I can now climb at 2.8 mph at 80 cadence and do 28 mph at 100 cadence
- compared to 5 mph at 80 cadence and 36 mph at 100 cadence before
Bottom line - I can walk up the hills instead of grinding up the hills.
I had several hardcore gearheads at Huckleberry Bicycles that were really impressed with the "overbuilt" nature of the setup. I just told 'em thank you and winked at the Mule.
She winked back....
And then farted....
Cleared the store.
I'm gonna have a shower and go get a beer at O'Douls....
In that order.
Glad you got all the kinks worked out for the Red Mule and that she is performing up to your expectations. Have a great time at O Douls.
