Eating to Ride! Let's talk Calories Energy and Miles

Oh my goodness - that was FANTASTIC but....

I'm still hungry!

So - Batter Up for Round 2!

Also an Excellent Choice!

So let's talk Touring Style Cycling and Calories Burned.

Here's my Go-to reference guide.

http://www.nutristrategy.com/activitylist.htm

So let's take a look at how the table is set up to show calories burned for different types of exercise for different weight individuals.

Now let's scroll down to the Cycling section....

Now there's not a listing for what I'm doing....

185# man going 10 mph....

But I'm not a 185# man!

I'm a 185# man hauling 80# of gear (including weight of water) so....

I'm really a 265# man going 10 mph....

Hmmm.... That's off the chart or in between the selections or whatever.

Let me make this simple....

I've tracked this pretty closely on a couple of long trips and from the table above and my own experience, I'm burning about ....

1000 CALORIES PER HOUR!!!!!

Which means yesterday I burned about....

8000 CALORIES!

And I probably only took in about 4000 - 4500 calories.

Which means I had at least a 3500 calorie deficit yesterday.

A pound of fat contains 3500 calories so....

I lost a pound of fat yesterday - IN ONE DAY!

That's what I was talking about yesterday when I said I could feel my body eating itself cause that's what it was doing.

It had burned up all the available carbohydrates from the food I had eaten and it was metabolizing fat.

On my 1300 mile tour from Lake Jackson Tx to Ft Worth Tx to Santa Fe New Mexico, I lost 2/3 of a pound per day which means I was in a daily average calorie deficit of 2333 calories.

Just think the Incredible Shrinking Man!

I'll keep you posted on this  phenomenon as this 2000 mile Pacific Coast Tour progresses.

The Human Body is an Amazing Machine.

You feed it the right fuel and regenerate it with a few hours of deep sleep and it will output incredible amounts of energy and work.....

You just have to keep feeding it fuel....

Thus the 2 boil in bag meals this morning....

Trying to rebuild the reserves a little after the Monster Day yesterday.

As the title and description above says, this blog is all about Discovery.

And the Discovery of the Human Body and how it works and what it is capable of is one of my greatest and neverending discoveries.

To Learn
To Test
To Fail
To Try Again
To Succeed
To Move the Bar Higher

It is in Our Primal Nature to Push Our Body to its limits but we have buried that Natural Bent with Work and Ambition and Stress and Food and Technology and you name it.

We have caged the Animal inside each of us.

It's Time You release the Lean and Hungry BEAST and Discovered the Real You!

Think about that!
