Breaking out the Ortlieb Pannier carrier. 

Slip the clips in at the bottom. 

Pull the clip release handles and place the jaws of the clips through the loops in the carrier. 

And Presto - Bike Pannier becomes Backpack...

And he's off to Rialto Beach!
