Are You a Bodybuilder?
I had someone ask me that this weekend when I was down at the beach....
Several thoughts raced through my mind in immediate reaction to the question...
First off, WOW!!!
Just having someone ask me that question speaks volumes to how far I've come from where I was 2 years ago.
And to be approaching 52...
Second thought was to bypass the "Consider Your Audience and the Context of the Response" filter and say...
I'll get to that thought in a minute.
Anyway, considering the inquirer was a member of the Young and the Restless Crowd, I decided to exercise the KISS principle - Keep It Simple Stupid - on my response and just say....
"No. I'm not a Bodybuilder. I just like to work out and eat right."
And gave him a Discovery card in case he was interested in learning more.
But it got me to thinking about how I would've responded had the audience and environment been different...
So let's rewind and try this again....
"Are You a Bodybuilder?"
Well - we're all Bodybuilders... Aren't we?
It's just that some of us are trying to build a different kind of body!!
Holy Monday Morning Concept Batman!!!
Run that past me again.
Think about it.
Every day every thing you stuff in your face and everything you do or don't do to your body is building....
Or tearing down that Temple you call your....
Body.
And the effects of your past, present and future bodybuilding efforts can have dramatic short and long term effects on your life and those around you.
Geez... That's some serious shit.
Yes - and Serious Shit is another concept I wanna discuss but we'll save that for another post so let's stay focused on this Body Building concept.
So.... Let's run with this...
Bottom line is we're all Body Builders.
Build on a Foundation of...
Good Diet and Nutrition
Routine and Varied Exercise
Disciplined and Sustained Rest and Recovery
And Lifestyle Prioritization and Choices that support the above....
And you will Build a Lean, Strong Body, Mind and Lifestyle that will carry you through the Combat and Crises of Everyday Life....
To the very end.
Based on the research I've done, the positive and negative results I've seen and my own experience, I am convinced that we now know enough about how this most Wonderful Machine we call our Body works, to maintain a Healthy, Active, Lean, Muscular and Strong Mind and Body into our late 70s and 80s...
In other words....
Up to the day we die.
So....
In the Context of a Long and Happy Pursuit of Life, Love, Liberty and Happiness...
I ask you....
Are You a Bodybuilder?
