Last Night's Supper... This Morning's Temps... Beef and Pork... And Me and Captain Kangaroo

Breakfast for Supper?

Sure - Why Not?

Turkey Bacon under Cheddar with a side of soft boiled egg!

Go LJT!

At least you're in the right temp zone for a few hours anyway.

New York Strip over Pork Chop!

Packing this for lunch for another day at the office along with veggies leftover from yesterday and a bowl full of Spring Mix and Tomato with a couple of boiled eggs and an avocado and a side of banana, apple, grapes and cranberry nut mix.

Assuming you can tell these pants are green.... tell me what this picture has to do with Captain Kangaroo with your guess in the Comments section.

Yes... I'd like a WOD of Ice Cream now....

Meanwhile back at the Crossfit WMD WOD Ranch....

It's cold in that there Box....

So let's do an extra long warm-up!

And then cool down with 3 scoops of WOD Ice Keam!

From the top.....

10 minutes of Strength Work to max out a Thruster!

7 minutes AMRAP of Ground to Overhead by any means human with 135#.... are you kidding me?
And then go stretch out the compressed vertebrae with 7 toes to bar!
I'm kinda liking this Pull - Push thing!

5 minutes of EMOM  with 10 Kettle Bell Swings and 5 Bar facing Burpees.....

Hmmm.... 10 - 7 - 5..... 5 different exercises..... Upper Body / Lower Body mix.... Strength and Agility....
On the Ground.... Off the Ground..... Swinging and Pressing....

This is why I like CrossFit!!!

Not bad Old Man - 165# Thruster almost 3 rounds on the 7 min AMRAP and No Misses on the 5 min EMOM!

Tear it down in CrossFit and build it up in the Nutribullet....

with Kale, Carrots, Asparagus, Grapes, Apple and Creatine Mix....

An hour and a half at CrossFit....

10 seconds with the Nutribullet....

Works for me.

Fast Commute

Doing the Speed Limit here... but let me just say.... if you wanna scoot back and forth between Point A and Point B really fast....

This is the way to go!

Yep.... Back in the old Bump and Grind.... for this week anyway!

What Goes Down Must Come Up! An Evolution of Discovery

So what's this post about?

Well....it's all part of the process.

Earlier this year.... March 22nd to be exact, I decided to take the next step in my exploration or discovery of what was possible with the human form in the 50s.

And I don't mean 1950s.... I mean 50s like years of age.

So I started a very strict Paleo diet - long story short.... Meat, Eggs, Vegetables, Fruit, Nuts / Seeds....

And nothing else.... No gluten - bread, pasta, cereal.... No grains, rice.... No Dairy (that's huge cause I love milk and cheese).... No sweets.... other than organic coarse grain turbinado sugar and honey.

Add in some supplements - Vitamins and Minerals - and Creatine....

And that's basically what I have been eating for the last 8 months.

The results.... My weight plummeted from 195 to a low of 165.... and the accompanying bodyfat melted away... like really quickly.

I spent a month or 2 down in the 165 - 170 range through the summer, then had a pretty significant injury as a result of not warming up.....

I tore my pectineus muscle (one of the 5 adductor muscles).... basically the groin muscle connecting your hip bone to your pubic bone....

And I tore it pretty severely...... nearly a total detachment from the pubic bone.

As a result of that, I changed some things up a little bit.... cause I had to.

For a few months, I couldn't do some of the heavy leg movements so....

I adapted..... I modified.... I overcame.

Started doing more group exercise classes involving less strenuous heavy lifting and more fluid motion and stretching like Zumba, Hip Hop (cause I like to dance) and Total Barre (because I always wanted to learn ballet)....

And I researched soft tissue injuries and recovery.... and found that the collagen cycle (4 - 3 month cycles of regeneration) is critical to soft tissue injury recovery.... and that L-Leucine - one of the major amino acids was critical in that cycle.

And so I started a near lactose free Protein Supplement containing L-Leucine and many other amino acids.

Because I decided....

I wanted to get stronger.....

And Bigger!

And I started treating myself to a Non-Paleo meal once a week....

Like this one.....

El Pastor "Street Tacos" at El Jimador.

So how's this new direction going?

Well..... I'm definitely stronger.... and maybe a little bigger.

I mean... come on.... at 165.... there was nothing there, but skin, muscle, bones and a lot of Mean Old Man!

Now there's just more Mean Old Man!!

Why do I spend so much time documenting all this kind of stuff?

Only God Knows Why!

No - really.... it's part of the process of documenting a journey.

I got into a discussion the other day about taking Selfies and the egotistical connotation of that....

And I related in my normal sarcastic way that deep down we all want to show off and talk about ourself and have other people talk about us....

It's what makes Social Media the boom that it is.

So instead of overanalyzing it, just embrace it.

And plus I figure..... I got a few good years left in me....

So might as well flaunt it while you got it - Right?

Packing a Paleo Lunch....

Wonderful veggies - Kale, Bok Choy, Asparagus, Carrots, Squash and a diced Jalapeno on the left...

And the accompanying protein on the right - 2 pork loin cutlets and a thin cut chicken breast and a couple of boiled eggs

And the fruit bag to the back with a banana, Fuji apple and some black seedless grapes....

A lot of lean, low fat, good carb Paleo food....

And yes, I eat that much every day!!!!

It's the Paleo Way!

Taking a Non-Paleo Break... Riding the Ride... Working on figuring this out

Once a week I treat myself to a Non-Paleo meal....

I try to do it on a day when I will have a lot of activity so I can burn off the extra carbs!

And the last 3 times I did this, pancakes were in the meal!

Guess that tells you what my body is craving!

Right after breakfast at El Jimador, I rode down to HEB and stocked up on fruit, nuts, veggies, 1 package of thin cut New York Strip steaks, coffee, honey, a treat (Nutella) and an alternate to my usual Fresca - Caffeine Free Diet Coke.... I know it's got lots of bad chemicals in it but I've been getting tired of water, coffee, Creatine mix and Protein mix and didn't want to buy beer because I've pretty much decided any kind of alcohol messes up my sleep.....

And Sleep is perhaps the greatest single contributor of Health, Happiness and Success in Life.

There's all the groceries loaded in the Ortlieb panniers on the back of my Trek 3700.

Pretty good combo.... have put probably 4000 heavily loaded miles on this setup:

Trek 3700 21 speed with a 13-34 rear gear set - not good for top speed (25 mph) but will grind a heavy load up a steep hill at 2.8 mph!

Old Man Mountain Pioneer Racks front and rear - these are large tube diameter racks that fasten to a spindle that goes through the bike axle... incredibly strong and stable.

Ortlieb Panniers - you see the rear panniers only here.... I bought a set that included front and rear panniers, a handlebar bag and a rack bag.  They are completely waterproof and when cinched up properly will float like a cork.  They were expensive ($600 for the entire set) but have seen over 4000 miles of bicycle touring and are IMHO the only way to transport a lot of stuff on a bike.

It's matched set #1 on this page....

Bontrager LT3 Plus Kevlar lined 26" mountain bike tires..... I have done over 3000 miles on this set....

WITHOUT A FLAT!!!

Well worth the $45 apiece I paid for them!

Over the past few months, have tried going back to the Godly side of life with the help of some Sweet Serenity.....

But not sure that's my path....

I just don't like the idea of someone else.....even if it is an Immortal Super Being..... getting credit for the Successes and Failures in my Life.

I figure it's my life.... and I can mess it up or make it up as good as anybody.

May sound a little detached and egotistical, but it's where I am right now.

Sorry Serenity.... hope you don't feel you wasted your time....

Gonna get a little work done so I can pay the man.

Paleo Pileup... Colder Weather... What would you do if...

There were no grocery stores...

And no cars!!

It's a life hack concept I am slowly evolving to....

The concept of total self-sufficiency!

Something to think about for the future....

But for now...

It's ME and HEB!

New York Strip blackened over veggies and salad.

HEB thin cut adobo seasoned chicken breast with boiled egg over salad and a side of Nutribulleted kale, carrots, apple, banana and Creatine mix.

A base for something....

How bout a Seafood mix?  Octopus, squid, shrimp, mussels.....seasoned liberally with my African - Moroccan spice mix and given about 2 minutes in a smoking hot cast iron skillet.

Seafood mix over Spring Mix.

Looking at cooler temps up north.

Holy Arctic Yellowstone Batman!!!

Probably the biggest negative for Bozeman...literally!

Pork chop under egg over sauted kale.

Staying in the freezer!

Mississippi anyone?

Gotta Kid Rock my Son ever once in a while!

No Mississippi Mud.... But I'll take a Cafe Americano.

Another grocery run on the Trek 3700 with Ortlieb panniers.

Amazing how much you can put in these panniers.

New York Strip and diced Chicken Breast over salad, Bok Choy and kale with microwaved sweet potato mixed in.

Nutribullet contents ready to rock on the right.

Nutribullet contents duly rocked on the right!

Chicken breast and turkey bacon with spring mix, tomatoes, avocado, kale, bok choy and fresh diced Fuji apple.

I think this is all I need to get around.

That and This....

An attitude.... A mindset...

A desire....

To Be Different....

And....

Be a Discoverer.

One Heavy Squat!

That's 510 for a below parallel squat!

One Way to Cut Down on How Much You Eat!

Use a bicycle to get your groceries!

I guarantee you that you will buy less if you have to pedal the load back home.

Amazing how much you can put in 2 bicycle panniers.

Mt Baldy Part 13 - the Final Push - Exit LAX - A week to remember!

Last post for the Mt Baldy Loop hike pics....

A huge Ponderosa Pine earmarked for genetic study.

Looking back on the summit....

And where we came from.

Back at the car...

And on to the airport...

I will remember this week and this hike always.

Thank you My Son!
