Turns out it's against the law to ride a bicycle on the interstate in the city limits of Denver...OOPS! I thought I was doing pretty good... but I guess I must have touched a nerve in Denver... cause there were several calls to the Denver Police Department describing everything from a "Black Guy in an Orange Jumpsuit" to "an Old White Guy w/ a bunch of red backpacks" riding down the interstate on a bicycle... so I'm taking a break in the shade of an overpass after sustaining 30+ MPH through a no-shoulder 2 mi stretch of I70 when up drives ones of the nicest police officers you'll ever meet... Gerry Tschirpke... he asked me what I thought I was doing and I told him.... I'm riding to Idaho Springs.... long story longer.... he escorts me off I70 and along a few sides streets to a bike route that parallels I70 to the 58 exit to Golden... now how's that for a deal! I get a police escort
for 2 miles along I70 and then for another mile through Denver... thanks Officer Tschirpke!
