Festung Ehrenbreitstein

I won't even try to describe this place - it has a history going back 1000s of years. 
It is a restored fortress, museum and an amazing wonderland of the history and development of man. 
I don't know how much the German government has spent on this National Monument but it was worth it.

There's a huge section / building showing the history of man in this area from homo erected to Neanderthal to Roman times and the use from the 1600s on...

As you can see there is partition after partition each with its own section of time showing the habitat and characteristics of man during that time. The museum was shaped like a horseshoe so there was 2 sides if these sections. Truly amazing and very well organized and beautifully presented. 

I don't know how many acres this place covers but it has many levels and sprawls over this plateau overlooking Koblenz.
