Have had quite a few conversations over the past year or so with people who are struggling with their diet and thus....
Struggling with their weight.
I usually don't say anything... I just listen.... and what do I hear?
Pretty much the same thing over and over again....
"I do pretty good for a couple of days and then I eat that bag of chips or carton of cookies or ice cream."
And it's obvious, they're talking about eating at home.... not eating out.
First question that comes to my mind is.....
"How in the hell did the chips, cookies or ice cream get to your house?"
It's a rhetorical question cause we (them too) all know the answer.....
They bought that SHIT at the grocery store!
Let me say that again with embellishment.....
They went to the store without a PLAN.... without a LIST.... without the RIGHT PERSPECTIVE....
And they bought the WRONG FOOD and brought it HOME!
As far as I'm concerned and in my experience, at that point, the FOOD battle, the DIET and NUTRITION battle, the WEIGHT battle and the HEALTHY LIFESTYLE battle is.....
LOST!
The place to lay down the rules..... to gut it up, grit your teeth and exercise your discipline....
Is at the Grocery Store!
Don't buy it and it will not come!
And don't give me that bullshit about buying other (unhealthy) food for your kids and spouse.... and that's how it gets there.
What's good for the gander is good for the goose and goslings.
If your goal is to eat healthy, find a way to work the same food into the meals for your spouse and kids.
They will be happier and healthier and you will too.
So..... with all that said, let's see how we did..... looks OK from the top of the grocery sacks.....
Maybe it's not Rock or Bust..... but
A little AC/DC never seems to hurt!
Ok, so here's what you bought....
Sweet Potatoes, Bananas, Apple, Bell Peppers, Onions, Kale, Spring Mix, Balsamic, Sourdough Bread (Hey that's not Paleo - we'll get to that later), Tomatoes, Grapes, Strawberries, Chocolate, Banana Chips, Brussel Sprouts, Roasted Chicken Breast.....
Ground Turkey Breast, Uncured Peppered Pastrami, Fat Free Yogurt, Eggplant Hummus, Brie Cheese, Eggs, Beef Bolognesse Ravioli, Chicken Pot Pie Ravioli, 2 jars of Marinara Sauce, Moscato Wine, TJ's Dark Coffee Beans, Bourbon Vanilla Extract, Java Stout Beer and Honey.
$93.00 on the money..... and this will last me 7 - 10 days.
Obviously, some of these purchases do not fit into the Paleo diet - Bread, Cheese, Chocolate, Yogurt, Pasta - but that's OK.... those are things that you will need and want.... when your body starts craving something other than meat, veggies, fruit and nuts.
So stay on the Straight and Narrow as much as you can and then indulge in a few carbs and sweets in between.
That's a helluva lot better than chips, cookies and ice cream.
Do that for 4 weeks and then weigh in again.
You will be amazed and you will realize....
That the battle was won.....
At the Grocery Store!
