Plan for Leg 2 Day 6

I rode better yesterday but I really want to pick up the pace and there's only one way to do that.... lighten up..... it's that whole power / weight ratio thing.

There's only so much power in the Big Dogs so if you wanna go faster you gotta get lighter.

I've went back through all my stuff again after yesterday's ride and checked the weather forecast for the next 10 days and see that it's gonna stay cold and get colder.... so I'm gonna send some of my clothes forward to Muleshoe Tx - huh?

It's getting colder and you're shedding clothes - don't panic - here's the deal.

I need to average 60 miles per day (with one 84 mile jump planned on Hwy 84 from Snyder to Lubbock) over the next 4 - 5 days to get me into Muleshoe.

But remember I'm staying in motels so I'm not sleeping on the ground in 25 deg temps.

I've found that if I leave mid-morning (temps around freezing) and ride for 5 - 6 hours straight and it's not raining, sleeting or snowing, I only need to have on a pair of bike shorts covered up with a pair of hiking shorts, a long-sleeved Columbia fishing shirt and a pair of mitten gloves, biking socks, shoes and helmet.... that's it....if I wear any more I start sweating .... I told you I'm hot natured and I'm putting out about 1.21 jigawatts of power (just what the flux capacitor needed in "Back to the Future") going up and down these hills lugging what I'm lugging so....

Here's the plan of the day:
  • Get a box from the America's Best Value Inn desk clerk - Carol Ann - nice lady - I explained what I was doing and that I wanted to mail some stuff forward to Muleshoe and if I give her the money - will she do it for me? You know - not one person on this trip that I've asked for help has said No - and neither did Carol Ann.
  • Empty my Action Packer on my bike and load all my dirty clothes into it (which is all my clothes).
  • Pedal Clothes and 47-year old 1 mile east on 180 back toward town to Laundromat and wash, dry, roll up and bag clothes.
  • Stop at Familia's on the way back and eat and get breakfast burritos for the road - I'm drooling already! Did I tell you I love to eat?
  • Get back to the motel room - pack up the stuff I'm sending to Muleshoe in the box I got from Carol Ann and leave the box and the money with her.
  • Repack the stuff I'm taking with me.
  • Hit the road.

Man - I'm tired already..... Not!

I'm getting ready to Rocket 60 miles west on Hwy 180 to Anson......

....the Wills on Wheels Express is approaching the launch pad.

So sit down, buckle up, hold on and Enjoy the Ride!
