I had done some research on Astoria and the Astoria Column kept coming up as a must see.
What I didn't realize was how steep the hill was getting to it.
Holy Streets of San Francisco Batman!
I have no idea what grade it was but it took 25 miles off my legs today and a year off my life overall.
Had to be 16 - 18%.
4th block up I has to stop - push the bike to the intersection and start again. Did the same on the 5th block.
By then I was off the steep stuff and down to the 10 - 12% grade which I pedaled up in 1st gear.
But I have to say...
It was worth it.
Wow what a quaint little town that is. I can see why you had to push the bike up some of those steep hills. Diana
